Description

Summary: This is a proposal for funding a laptop and printer for Hospital of Hope in Mango, Togo. Estimated cost is $1,000 (at time of writing, 11,000 TRC )

What is Hospital of Hope?  https://vimeo.com/201631690  Main website: https://hohmango.org/

After years of planning and construction, the Hospital of Hope began seeing patients in March of 2015. The 30,000 square foot facility includes 65 inpatient beds and serves patients from Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger, Nigeria and other West African countries. The Hospital of Hope offers an outpatient clinic with 11 consultation rooms including OB, surgery and medicine. In addition the clinic is equipped with a dental room for use when dentists are available. The Hospital of Hope is equipped with digital x-ray imaging, ultrasound, a full pharmacy, full laboratory, a neo-natal intensive care unit, 3 isolation rooms, infectious wards, and 4 large operating rooms The Hospital of Hope team is comprised of more than 140 Togolese staff and over 40 Expats from the US, Canada, France and New Zealand who desire to show God’s love and care to those living in this dry corner of West Africa.

Within the first two years of opening, HoH performed 1350 surgeries and delivered 727 babies including 20 sets of twins and 2 sets of triplets. Also performed over 5000 x-rays and over 1500 ultrasounds, treated 20 children with chemotherapy and cared for 95 premature babies.

Direct Need relayed from staff:

"The hospital could really use a new laptop. We would like to track all our chronic illnesses, chemo patients, unpaid bills and VHFs. We have a person who can start keeping track, but we wanted to set up another computer station (laptop & printer) for them. That would be around $1000 to set up this needed job."

Advantage for Terracoin Community:

I believe this is a unique opportunity to align with Terracoin's vision, and start a partnership with a very unique organization in one of the poorest countries in the world. I think we could also add branding to the equipment, and have confirmed with staff that we can obtain photos for promotion if needed.

Thank you for considering this request

Provided that in Africa the computers are being attached with screws to the floor in hospitals. What are the chances that the laptop won't be stolen in very short period of time, if ever bought, in your opinion?

This seems like a generalization I can't speak to.. Concerning this small town in Togo - I would say HoH are in a fairly stable place, where they are able to run a fairly large medical center in a secure and sustainable way.

You are not answering to my concern. Probably you don't have it. So I'll try to say it differently. Once we've "donated" how and for how long are you going to monitor and to provide the evidence the laptop is still in the hospital and not in the scammers home with all the branding added and another scammer laughing at us?

This sounds like a different question - sorry you don't feel like I'm answering your questions. Maybe Telegram is better suited for this discussion? I don't plan on monitoring or providing evidence for continuous use of the laptop or printer - as in any donation there is trust involved. If you do not feel comfortable with this, please vote "no". I have close ties with one of the hospital founders, that's why I am confident in the need and that this gift will be put to good use. At the same time, I totally understand if this is either not something the community wants to get behind, or is willing to take a risk on. In any case, thanks for your questions!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against your proposal. But we are all anonymous here and confidence without evidence can cause TRC to become help-the-scammers coin instead of help-the-world's. If you see my projects I'm always trying to provide evidence of what I'm doing and saying, because there is a prestige of TRC involved. I should assume of course that you are not trying to scam TRC dGov, but would you give your money to an anonymous user here that states he is in touch with someone in Africa he has confidence into, without providing any evidence and proposing to donate something that can be easily stolen? By other hand if one of the founders of the hospital desires to receive a laptop for his personal needs for free donating it to him how will be we helping people truly need?

Hey Aco. Glad you go this in. Couple questions:
How much total is this proposal for?
Are you sending trc or fiat to the hospital?
Who is buying the laptop/ printer?
Thanks.

Just realized I can't edit my post and didn't answer all your questions.. I will be sending $500 USD to HoH from my personal account if this proposal is passed by the community

Hi abettorpin, Thanks for your questions !
-This is for half of the original amount I asked for in the discovery - sorry for the confusion. I dropped the amount in half to 1) establish trust with TRCF and community and 2) take market conditions into consideration
-I am planning to send this in Fiat.
-From my contact yesterday "I will email my colleague and see if it’s best to purchase one in Togo or for me to buy one here and put it on the container. Either way I would provide the receipt for you and a thank you letter with hospital letterhead."
Thanks -
Aco

Thanks for responding. I'd like to see this proposal passed, and I did vote for it, but 28k trc is a TON of trc for half a laptop. With that said, no one else is putting in competing proposals, which Is why I voted in the affirmative, otherwise I may not have..

I too would like to see verification that these funds end up in the right hands. I almost think you buy/ sending the laptop would be the best route, despite it likely being the most expensive option.

How to you plan on raising funds for the other half of the money you need to buy it? I don't think I could vote for another 28k trc going to this, just because that much trc could be more useful longer term, than liquidated at current prices.

I see that you still need quite a lot of votes for this to pass. Might be worth considering joining the mattermost platform to help garner support/ "whip" votes.

Best of luck.

The organization that is behind the Hospital of Hope in Togo is ABWE International: https://www.abwe.org/, Association of Baptists for World Evangelism, right?

Thanks for your comment johnwhitestar - This is correct. You can read more about the hospital's founding philosophy and mission statement here: https://hohmango.org/about-us/

Hi team ! Thank you for considering this request. I am requesting half of the original amount considering this is my first proposal and current market. If requested I will have verifiable Hospital of Hope leadership reach out to TRCF admin to confirm payment was received.
I don't see the linked comments from the discovery so I will post some of the questions I received from Telegram.
Please let me know if you have other questions, and thank you for supporting Hospital of Hope !

I'd like also to ask, why their site is only in English while English is not spoken in Togo?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the site exists mainly for supporters / funders - most of the Togolese they serve to not read or have electricity

Who are their customers?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Togolese and people from surrounding countries

How can their customers find the hospital?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think mainly word of mouth - its a nomadic culture

Where are the sections for the costumers on the site?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As above- check out this vid for a little more context if helpful : https://vimeo.com/201631690

Why their donation section doesn't mention the items you mentioned to donate for?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wasn't aware of the donation section - I reached out directly to hospital staff who I am aquainted with

Are they registered in Togo, if so what organization has registered them and as what (they are a charity or what?).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some independent verification of the place:
https://www.samaritanspurse.org/medical/hospital-of-hope-mango-togo/
https://tg.usembassy.gov/esperance-hospital-dedication/

The services are not free, as I can see, how much do they charge for their services? (as far as I know the private hospitals earn very well in Africa).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Im not sure but if you have specific pricing questions I can probably obtain answers. I do know that payment is done at a highly subsidized cost - and often livestock are offered for various treatments.

Is it possible to have a contact of the person inside of the hospital that asked you for this donation, to check things in order to be sure they really asked for those items?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely - I reached out to my contact and will PM an admin if this is requested
